Red Level

 

 

 

Green Level is our starting level and is where the children need to be. 

To remain on this level a student must:

· Co-operate with others.

· Be helpful and try to work with teachers and other students.

· Respect the rights of others.

Rewards / Consequences

· Students will participate in class/school activities including socials, excursions, barbeque, picnics, sports activities, extra play time, awards and any other normal school activity.

· Students will be allowed to represent the school at sporting, academic and social activities.

· Students will be involved in Reward Day activities.

 

 

 

A level that is attainable for all children K - 6.

To reach this level a student must:

· Be on Green Level for one term.

· Have had no detention during previous term.

· Consistently follow class/school rules.

· Demonstrate consistency in work efforts.

· Demonstrate positive playground behaviour.

 

Rewards / Consequences

· Certificate – Blue Level.

· Letter of recognition to parents.

· Involvement in special Blue Day activity.

· Maintain rights and privileges of Green Level

Examples of behaviour

· Being a responsible and considerate person.

· Trustworthiness.

· Achieving to the best of one’s ability.

· Care for the environment.

· Fairness in sport.

· Participation in Student Council.

· Politeness to others.

· Helping beyond expected norm.

· Helping others in need.

· Promoting a positive image of our school.

Who places the children on this level

Classroom teacher in consultation with Assistant Principal or Supervisor.

 

 

 

To reach this level a student must:

· Be on Blue Level for one term and maintained this behaviour.

· Show a willingness to support others.

· Display a high level of social skills.

· Take pride in self and school.

· Demonstrate willingness to persevere at a set task.

 

Rewards / Consequences

· Silver Level certificate.

· Parent notification.

· Special Silver event.

· Maintains rights and privileges of Blue Level.

Examples of behaviour

· Assists in school events.

· Shows initiative in assisting in maintaining a happy, clean and safe environment.

· Accepts responsibility for own actions.

· Aware of other peoples’ personal space and needs.

· Offers assistance in class.

· Shares school resources with others willingly.

· Accepts decisions willingly despite consequences to themselves.

Who places the children on this level

Stage teachers and supervisor.

 

 

 

To reach this level a student must:

· Show exemplary behaviour and attitude.

· Participate in extra curricula school activities, e.g.  band, choir, library, sporting, public speaking, drama, performance.

· Demonstrate school service – commitment to all areas of school life.

· Demonstrate high awareness of the needs of others.

· Demonstrate high personal standard of work.

· Have brought credit to the school.

Rewards / Consequences

· Gold Badge.

· Gold Certificate.

· Photo in foyer.

· Principal invites student’s parents to a morning tea to present Gold Certificate.

· Name in Grapevine.

· Additional playground privileges.

· Gold Day excursion.

Examples of behaviour

· Outstanding leadership in the class or within the school.

· Initiates programs/projects within the school or community that benefit others rather than themselves.

· Behaviour brings recognition to the student/family/school.

Who places the children on this level

Recommended to staff by member of staff. Agreed by staff.

 

 

A student may be placed on this level for repeatedly doing one or more of the following:

· Talking inappropriately – time, tone, volume

· Annoying others

· Playing at the wrong time

· Not listening

· Calling out

· Throwing/flicking objects

· Being out of bounds in playground

· Incorrect movement around the school and classroom

· Not sharing/cooperating

· Being rude or impolite

· Bringing inappropriate toys

· Climbing trees

· Jumping off/on seats and walls

· Bringing any spray cans to school including hairspray and   deodorant without permission

· Impolite or not considering others

· Persistent talking

· Petty theft

Consequences

· Assistant Principal will talk to child about the problem(s) he/she is causing/ having.

· Student will be given a chance to do something about his/her problem.

· Assistant Principal will show what happens on Orange Level.

· Note is sent to parent informing them of placement on level and reasons.

· Student may be given up to two days detention as determined

· by the Assistant Principal/Supervisor in consultation with classroom teacher.

· Student may be excluded from school activities and representation of the school.

· Student may be excluded from Reward Day activities.

After a 10 day positive behaviour period student will return to Green Level.

 

 

A student may be placed on this level if at anytime they:

· Verbally taunt or bully another child causing emotional discomfort.

· Blatantly lie to avoid consequences

· Initiate, or retaliate to, a fight.

· Encourage others to fight.

· Defy or challenge a teacher’s authority by intentionally ignoring a repeated request.

· Make racist or sexist remarks or any malicious or derogatory comments.

· Behave in an unsafe manner  by leaving the room or playground without permission.

· Vandalise property at school.

· Behave inappropriately when traveling to and from school including bus travel.

Consequences

· Assistant Principal will contact and inform student’s parents of placement on level and reason for placement.  A meeting can be organised with parents, classroom teacher and Assistant Principal if any party requests one.

· Student will be given a chance to do something about his/her problem and offered a mentor to support the student while on Orange Level.

· Student will be placed on 5 days detention.  Student will be involved in a Social/Behavioural Program during this time.

· Student will lose all privileges while on this level including the right to represent the school or attend any non-curriculum based school activities and involvement in any designated Reward Day.

 

After 10 days student returns to Yellow Level if he/she shows improvement in behaviour. 

If acceptable behaviour continues for a further 5 days the student will return to Green Level.

 

 

A student may be placed on this level if at anytime they:

· Bully- verbally or physically ganging up on another child.

· Deliberately destroy property including graffiti and messing of toilet.

· Behave aggressively or violently.

· Intentionally swear at another student, member of staff or visitor.

· Steal.

· Disobey a teacher – open defiance / non-compliance.

· Refuse to accept the consequences for own actions.

· Spit on a person.

· Maliciously spread rumours or verbally abusing anyone.

· Behave in a way  that de-values others based on their sex, colour, nationality or beliefs.

· Truant.

Consequences

· Student’s parents will be asked to attend an interview with the Principal and Assistant Principal.  Other staff may be asked, or choose, to attend.

· A mentor will be appointed to support the student until he/she returns to Yellow Level.  Counsellor / Learning Support Team assistance is enlisted.

· The student will not be allowed to participate in certain class activities (depending upon the behaviour exhibited), social functions, Reward Day, excursions, sporting teams, or non-curriculum based school events.

· The Mentor will meet with the student each morning until he/she returns to Yellow Level.

· The student will attend detention for 10 days.  Recess will be spent in a restricted area during this period.  A Social/Behavioural Program will be implemented.

· Student will need to complete a daily report/contract which is to be checked by class/duty teacher and countersigned by Supervisor and Parent.

After a further 5 days of appropriate behaviour from the completion of the detention period the student will return to Orange Level.  After 5 days the student will then return to Yellow Level for 5 days.  The student will then return to Green Level.

The student and parents will be informed that if the student’s behaviour does not improve then there is every possibility that the student will be suspended.

Children will show respect for teachers, staff members, visitors and other children.

Children will show respect for school grounds, buildings, equipment, teachers’ and other children’s equipment.

TO HAVE A SAFE SCHOOL

Children will be in correct play areas.

Classrooms are out of bounds unless with a teacher or nominated student.

Children will walk around classrooms and on concrete areas.

Children will remain on school premises during school hours.

Children will play appropriately in the playground.

Canteen work areas are out of bounds.

Children will follow established routines when the bell rings.

Children will attend school daily and notes will be provided to explain any absence.

Children will wear school uniform and the appropriate footwear.

 

 

ACCEPT MY RESPONSIBILITIY AS A MEMBER OF THE BUXTON SCHOOL COMMUNITY

Children will be responsible members of the school by positively participating in external and internal activities including excursions, sporting and cultural activities and assemblies.

Children will accept that they have rights and responsibilities as members of the school community and that there are set consequences for not upholding them.

Children are expected to value contributions made by all members of the school community.
