FROM the LIBRARY

LET’S GET READING!!! The MSReadathon starts today and continues through until 30 June. The children can enrol by sending away a registration form (from the Library) OR by enrolling online at www.msreadathon.org.au.  Emily Pilt was telling me last week that this is her seventh year of reading for MS. What a wonderful effort Emily. If we could collect $10 for each  reader our school would raise over $2000 towards MS research. Now there’s a challenge for all of us.

Reading for the NSW Premiers Reading Challenge is also underway. Kate Dore helped locate the books on our shelves, identified by different coloured stars. Thank you so much. It was a time consuming task. Georgia and Olivia Dore have already begun their reading contracts. The challenge books may counted as part of the MSReadathon books. Please remember that if your child is in Kindergarten and Year 1 their books may be read to them. A record sheet to list the titles and authors will come home for every child this week.

Nicole Hanger has been covering our Library books in contact for many years. I would like to especially thank her for the latest huge crate of covering, done when Nicole was ill. It really is appreciated, especially as working with contact can be very fiddly. Nicole is an expert. The children love to borrow the new books displayed on the new book stand.

Top Tales Bookclub orders have been handed out. This week Scholastic Issue 4 brochures will arrive home. The orders are due back no later than Friday, 12 June 2009. Buying from these clubs helps raise money for new Library books. Thank you for your support.

Orders for RECONCILIATION wristbands can be placed with Mrs Hanna or Mrs Carson. They are very durable and colourful and cost $2 each.

The money needs to be brought to school no later than next Wednesday, 3 June.

Thank you.

AMBASSADOR’S  DAY

On Monday, 25 May I went to the Ambassador’s Day and this is my reort. I got up at 6:30am and got back at 9:40pm. I was picked up by Mr Mac at 7:15am as well as Morgan Adams and Samuel Rasmussen. We got dropped off at Mt Annan High School. After that we got on a bus and headed to the University of Western Sydney.

By the time we were there, it was around 8:45am and we had to get our name tags and our item 1 was a maraca. My name tag had Student Ambassador for Public Education 9, Kieren Racklyeft Buxton PS Macarthur School Education Group South Western Sydney region. There were around 240 people.

The next thing we did was go to the Lecture room where special guests did an introduction on what we would be doing on the day. After that we had recess and then we got into groups that had the same item as us. Then we got a bag of notes and we had to pick one out and find the person with the same note. We had to make a speech. Next we had lunch and after that we went to a fake court room.

After that we went to a language class for about 10  minutes. We then went to a chemistry class where the Professor talked to us about metals and ligaments. The experiment we had to do was to fill 2 balloons, one with hydrogen and the other with hydrogen and oxygen. The loudest and faster one was the hydrogen and oxygen. After that we put on a fake cast on our arm. Next we saw 3 snakes and 2 lizards. We fit 7 people under a olive python which the owner said was a record. One of the other 2 snakes was a black headed python and  I am not sure what the other one was. The 2 lizards were bearded dragons. Then we got on a bus and headed Revesby Workers where we had dinner and got our badge and worked out what we would do. After dinner we got our certificate and the we went home.
